Easter will be on Sunday, April 20, 2025, which is later, so the weather should be GREAT! ! We've started updating the info for this year. Unfortunately MOST wait until the last minute (often just a week before) to publish their dates, times and details. We're updating their information daily as it comes in. We expect pages to be up to date by early April.

When we CONFIRM an event for 2025, the date will be highlighted in pink, like this passage to make them easy to find as you scroll down the page.

Garden City Library Annual Pysanky at the Library - Easter egg decorating

Pysanky (pronounced “pih-sahn-KIH") is a centuries-old tradition in the Slavic cultures of eastern European. Although the eggs might look like they are painted, they are actually dyed using a wax resist (batik) method. Using a special stylus called a kistka and hot beeswax, lines are drawn on a raw egg. The egg is then placed in yellow dye. Next more lines are drawn in wax and the egg is dyed orange. The process continues with ever-darkening dyes. Finally, all the layers of wax are melted off and the beautiful design emerges. Banished as a religious practice during the Soviet regime, pysanky has enjoyed a strong resurgence since Ukrainian independence in the early 1980's. Although it is believed that Ukrainian eggs predate the Christian era, the symbols and folk motifs drawn on the eggs have evolved and taken on new meanings. On Easter Sunday the Laurie Easter egg hunt attracts children from tots to teens to find 10,000 eggs hidden throughout the fair grounds. Event date and time: In previous years, it was held on Easter Sunday or the day before, so it may be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The annual Easter parade down Main Street of Arrow Rock concludes with a best hat contest in front of the boardwalk shops. The Easter egg hunt will follow on the lawn of the J. Huston and the Old Courthouse. Sections of the lawn are divided up by age groups. The J. Huston Tavern is open and serving lunch Easter Sunday.
